They envisioned a custom tour with a private driver and guide to help plan and operate their California experience of exploring the state’s famous beaches, stunning mountains and must-see coastal attractions such as Hearst Castle.

The question was, could our team create a multi-day custom tour from San Francisco to Los Angeles, ensuring all the sisters had to do was show up and enjoy? Below is the detailed travel plan we created, showcasing the best of California for the adventurous sisters from Australia.

Day 1

Private San Francisco Tour

We kicked off the adventure in San Francisco, where Cathy and Sally had two nights to settle in. Factoring in jet lag and potential travel delays, we planned for one full day of exploration, arranging a Private San Francisco Tour to make the most of their time. Beginning with their own expert driver and guide, who greeted them at their hotel’s front door in a luxurious Mercedes-Benz, we proceeded to show them interesting San Francisco neighborhoods, per their request.

By mid-morning, standing in awe beneath the vibrantly orange Golden Gate Bridge, Cathy and Sally chatted excitedly about what the next six days would entail and were happily anticipated what was to come.

In the afternoon, after exploring San Francisco’s most iconic landmarks, we delved deeper into the city’s character, introducing the sisters to sights including Billionaire’s Row and the Painted Ladies, offering them a glimpse into the rich history and dynamic neighborhoods of the city.

As the day wound down, we returned them to their luxury hotel, the Ritz Carlton, for some well-deserved relaxation before dinner. To ensure a memorable evening, we suggested several of San Francisco’s classic restaurants, then finalized our departure time for the following morning.

We love leading treks on Yosemite’s trails in all seasons, whether for casual hikes or tailored, leg-burning stairway climbs. Picture yourself soothing and resetting your mind over a weekend in God’s country.

After crossing the scenic California foothills, rich in Gold Rush history, we arrived in Yosemite—a peaceful, soul-enriching spot offering a serene contrast to the city. Beginning at El Capitan, the tallest granite monolith in the world (three times taller than the Salesforce Tower), we peacefully walked across the Valley floor to Bridalveil Fall.

Then, comforting ourselves with our surroundings – including sleeping in bear country for the next two nights – we checked into our luxury hotel accommodations. The sisters looked forward to their upcoming walks and quality time together, free from city distractions.

Day 3

Amongst the Giant Sequoias

On our free day in Yosemite, we set off to see the legendary giant sequoias—ancient living monuments that have stood tall for over 2,000 years. As Cathy, Sally, and our private guide hiked beneath their towering canopy, they breathed in the crisp, pine-scented air and listened to the peaceful birdsong drifting through the rustling needles.

Standing beneath these massive giants – the largest trees on the planet – was humbling and awe-inspiring for the sisters, adding to the many natural wonders and inspiration Yosemite has to offer.

Last Night Stargazing

After a peaceful evening by the fireplace and a relaxing dinner, Cathy and Sally then set out with our private guide to enjoy Yosemite’s stunning night skies, where we made our way to a secluded meadow after sunset, turned off our lights and gazed upward to discover a dazzling tapestry of stars and constellations. Are they closer to the Earth in Yosemite? It seems so.

When was the last time you casually discussed the solar system, spotted a distant galaxy or admired the Milky Way in pure silence? We love sharing the hidden, magical aspects of Yosemite — moments that many visitors overlook.

Day 4

Carmel-by-the-Sea

Leaving the Sierra Nevada mountain range behind, we set out across California’s farmland toward the stunning Monterey Bay coastline, known for its world-class golf, scenic views and serenity. After one last photo stop in the morning, we bid farewell to Yosemite and were on our way.

As we drove through the Central Valley, we paused for lunch at a classic American diner before continuing our adventure onto the peninsula, where we explored historic downtown Monterey, wandered along Cannery Row and took in the natural beauty of the famous 17-Mile Drive.

Monterey Sea Creatures

Our journey continued with an exploration of the glorious Monterey Peninsula, celebrated for its abundant wildlife and nutrient-rich waters. This remarkable stretch of protected coastline, spanning 276 miles between San Francisco and Big Sur, plunges to depths twice that of the Grand Canyon.

Once arriving in Carmel, our private guide introduced Cathy and Sally to its charming walking streets before dropping them off at their luxurious beach hotel. With a personal White Wolf map in hand, we assured the sisters the next few days would be similar to our Carmel Weekend Getaway package.

Big Sur Coastline

The next morning, we set out for more natural landscapes along the Big Sur coastline. Stopping at iconic landmarks along the dramatic cliffs, such as Bixby Bridge and McWay Falls, we tailored Cathy and Sally’s private Big Sur tour to align perfectly with their interests. All they had to do was sit back, relax and take in the gorgeous views of the Pacific Coast Highway with a private driver and guide to handle the planning details and scenic stops.

Afterward, we returned to Carmel for leisurely shopping, dining and inspiring strolls, as Cathy and Sally continued to revel in their easy-to-enjoy luxury tour.

Day 6 and Beyond

San Francisco or Los Angeles?

The options were now for the two sisters to return to San Francisco to fly home or continue south along the famous Pacific Coast Highway to Los Angeles. Cathy and Sally wanted to see Hearst Castle as a bucket list destination, so we continued south, eventually walking through the estate and museum (even seeing the wild zebras), on their way to Disneyland a few days later.

A few days later, after exploring the wonders of the California coastline, including shipwrecks, quirky hotels, Danish towns, parking above the ocean on Stearn’s Wharf, and more, Cathy and Sally explored their final private tour location along the Malibu coastline before arriving at their Los Angeles accommodations, The Beverly Hills Hotel.
